Cornerbacks: Five Steelers Prospects for 2015

Senquez Golson Ole Miss Cornerback

Senquez Golson:  Ole Miss, #21
Height: 5-9. Weight: 176
Projected 40 Time: 4.46
Projected Round (2015): 2-4

Although only 5 foot inches in height, Golson has an explosive vertical leap that helped make him one of the most dangerous cornerbacks in the nation in 2014.  Golson became an interception machine with excellent instincts and ball skills.  Able to bait quarterbacks, Golson recorded nine interceptions in 2014 – the second-highest total in the nation.  Golson added 41 tackles and eight passes broken up.

In 2013, Golson recorded 41 tackles, two interceptions and three passes broken up to add to the three interceptions, three passes batted away and 36 tackles the year before.

A baseball player as well, Golson was drafted in the 2011 MLB Draft by the Boston Red Sox.

One of Golson’s strengths is his ability to not only stay with receivers, but get excellent position to eliminate receptions.  Unafraid to tackle in the open field, Golson was key to helping Ole Miss beat several teams that were big contenders.  The Combine should be an opportunity to show NFL scouts just how competitive he is at getting to the ball quickly and wrangling receivers along the sidelines and deep downfield.

We have needed a CB for a few season. I hope this season we will opt to draft one.
