Cornerbacks: Five Steelers Prospects for 2015

Kevin Johnson Wake Forest cornerback

Kevin Johnson: Wake Forest, #9
Height: 6-1. Weight: 175
Projected 40 Time: 4.55
Projected Round (2015): 2-4

Johnson has quick feet and the discipline to square up and mirror receivers in complex routes due to smooth hips and excellent balance, especially in man coverage.  Johnson has the ability to disrupt routes, especially in press coverage and can slow receivers while transitioning.  Lateral movement and a quick break has given him the ability to get off the line and crowd wideouts along the perimeter while also tightening the target are for deep throws.  Despite being under weight for the NFL, he plays with speed to close on receivers and fights to disengage in support against the run.  As a zone defender, Johnson was a hard hitter who shadowed the best receivers on opposing sides.  With a lanky frame, Johnson will need to hit the weight room in order to play against NFL receivers but his coverage, athleticism and competitive streak gives him a legitimate shot at being a starter very quickly.  He has the ability to play gunner on special teams and has been compared to Sam Shields.  Johnson was named 2nd-team All-ACC.  Johnson had 7 career interceptions and 191 career tackles for the Demon Deacons.

We have needed a CB for a few season. I hope this season we will opt to draft one.
