Steelers Second-Year Wide Out James Washington Sheds 15 Pounds

Second-year Steelers wide receiver James Washington says he has dropped 15 pounds this offseason according to The Athletic.

Washington, the No.60-overall pick out of Oklahoma State in 2018, weighed in at 5’11/213 at the Combine last year but said he ballooned to 223-225 as a rookie and admittedly burned out quickly once the season came along.

Washington tore up the preseason last summer with a 7-158-2 line but fizzled fast and caught just over 41% of his targets. He finished his rookie season with only 16 grabs for 217 yards and one touchdown in 14 games.

Free agent addition Donte Moncrief is believed to have the inside track at the No.2 job in the Antonio Brown-less wideout corps behind obvious No.1 JuJu Smith-Schuster, but Washington should be a bigger contributor in Year 2.

He spent the offseason working on the family farm and running sprints in order to lose weight and get faster. Washington is now down to 210 pounds and looking forward to a great 2019 season.
