Steelers LB Harrison Makes it Official; Set to Return for 14th Season

Cincinnati Bengals v Pittsburgh Steelers

Retirement just isn’t in the makeup for Steelers linebacker James Harrison, and today he made it official that he’s coming back to the Steelers for yet another season.

Wednesday Harrison will turn 38, but last season still played at a high level for the black and gold as they made the postseason as the 6th wild card in the AFC.

He will enter his 14th year in 2016 with the Steelers, and over the weekend Mike Tomlin said he was planning on having Harrison on the team this upcoming season.

Just remember , if he becomes a full time starter then Jarvis Jones has fell flat on his face or hes out with a major injury . Either way , the Steelers defense will be in trouble because Harrisons full time starting days are long gone . Hes still a good situational player but as a every down starter , thats not what the Steelers are looking for .

In regards to my above comment on Jarvis Jones , the Steelers announced today that they are not picking up the fifth year option on Jones contract . That speaks volumes that unless Jones has a breakout season in 2016 , the Steelers have decided to part ways with the former number one pick . With Jones lack of play making you knew it was coming .

James Harrison is 38, and he is still an essential member of the Steelers linebackng corps. Those two facts speak volumes about Harrison’s innate ability and the Steelers failure to draft quality replacements for veteran defenders lost after Super Bowl 43. There are very few starters on our current defensive unit (including Harrison) that are equal in talent to their counterparts on our last Super Bowl team. Our 2016 draft picks and free agent signings addressed needs on defense — they maintained our level of talent — but they did not appear to raise the quality. Which suggests that our D in 2016 will again be mediocre, and a mediocre D usually yields a mediocre record.
