Steelers to Visit w/ Louisville Center Eric Wood

The Steelers have already looked at a couple of centers, and now Pro Football Talk.com is reporting that they, along with the Browns and Bengals are going to look at another center – Louisville’s Eric Wood.

Louisville center Eric Wood has set up private workouts or official visits in the next few weeks with three of the four AFC North teams, according to Chris Steuber of Scout.com.

Pittsburgh Steelers offensive line coach Larry Zierlein is scheduled to work out the projected second-round draft pick on the Louisville campus on April 6. The 6-foot-4, 310-pounder is set to visit the Bengals on April 14 and the Cleveland Browns on April 15.

A four-year starter who established a new school record with 49 consecutive starts, Wood is also a candidate to play offensive guard in the NFL.

“I feel comfortable at both positions right now,” Wood told Scout.com. “I’ve been working a lot at guard, since I haven’t had as much experience at it. But the way I look at it, there’s probably a two-thirds chance I’m going to play guard next season.

“The fact is that there are twice as many guard spots as there are center spots. I’m going to do all I can to make a team and play as early as possible. … I could see myself on a tough-natured team like the Steelers.”

Wood is a Cincinnati native who grew up as a Bengals fan.

Here is the Scout.com profile on Wood:

Wood is an explosive interior lineman who plays with a powerful motor. He has great size and strength. He understands his and his linemates assignments and is a leader on offense. He’s dominates upfront and overpowers the opposition during running situations. He displays good technique in pass protection. He has great awareness and picks up blitzes well. He’s reliable and works well with the quarterback. – Chris Steuber, Scout.com
