Flozell Adams Gone After One Season; OT Released

In a move that many saw coming, the Steelers have released offensive tackle Flozell Adams. After losing starting right tackle Willie Colon to an Achilles injury during last year’s OTAs, the Steelers signed the former Dallas Cowboy to a two-year, $7.25 million contract last July.

Adams earned $2.5 million in base salary while starting 19 regular and post-season games, but with the return of Colon on a five-year, $29 million contract extension, and the arrival of second-round offensive tackle Marcus Gilbert, Adams may not have a starting opportunity to justify his $5 million base salary in 2011.

There was no signing bonus in Adams’ deal, so his release will clear $5 million from their salary cap. What the Steelers do with that money remains to be seen.

So uh, who plays left tackle??? Please, please, even if it’s true, don’t say J. Scott, just lie to me and say the rook or bringing back Starks…I mean, I like J. Scott as a swing tackle but not as a starter to protect BB’s blind side (someone’s going to respond that the started in the super bowl, I know it).

I wonder if the Steelers are going to go after someone like Carl Nicks of New Orleans or something because right now, unless they bring back Starks, there is no left tackle on the roster besides J. Scott who I like as a swing tackle but not a starter.
