Safety Troy Polamalu doesn’t know when the NFL lockout will end, but he does believe the players are representing the everyday person in their battle against the NFL according to Arash Markazi of ESPNLosAngeles.
“It’s unfortunate right now. I think what the players are fighting for is something bigger,” Polamalu said Sunday night. “A lot of people think it’s millionaires versus billionaires and that’s the huge argument. The fact is its people fighting against big business.”
“The big business argument is ‘I got the money and I got the power therefore I can tell you what to do.’ That’s life everywhere. I think this is a time when the football players are standing up and saying, ‘No, no, no, the people have the power.'”

Fantastic. Maybe with intelligent people like Troy and Rashard speaking out, football can finally shed the reputation of being a sport played by dumb jocks with an even dumber fan base.

Im assuming your being sarcastic, or atleast hope you are, but Troy is a well-spoken, great ambassador for the players, so dont lump him in with the nonsense of Mendenhall

No, I’m not being sarcastic. The criticism of Mendenhall is nothing more than group think in it’s worst form. I have yet to see an article yet that actually addresses what he had to say rather than sinking to the level of name calling. Say, for instance… “nonsense of Mendenhall”. When my children argue with each other at the same developmental level as those who have hurled insults at Mendenhall, I have to send them to their rooms. I wish I could do that with most steelers fans on the internet.

Yes, Tim, group think does suck and I am all against it. But there are ALWAYS extenuating circumstances for every rule and guess what, 9-11 happens to be that extenuating circumstance where everyone who is American needs to be on the same page TOGETHER, period! Also, even if there is validity to Mendenhall’s point of view and I am not saying there is or isn’t but judging by the masses and how things are PERCEIVED, he should know better than to put his rep, and the Steelers’ and organizational reps on the line with such a sensitive topic by going public with a controversial editorial! Now, should I go to my room?!

Football is a business and any good business needs to protect their image. Mendenhall comes out and speaks on controversial topics for a shock factor and trying to get attention. His comments paints him in a negative light as Jay would agree with me. Not only do most Steelers fans hope to have their team out of the spotlight in the off-season due to negative circumstances from the past, advertisers and other businesses due too and want their product protected. Champion already dropped Mendenhall for his rambling, not for his play on the field. Businesses will cut ties with their personnel if they represent their product in a negative way. My point being, its not only Steelers fans that want Mendenhall to shut up and play, its also advertisers and big business.
