Steelers deserve high grades against Texans

Grade B+:  The personnel changes, including inserting rookies Martavis Bryant, Stephon Tuitt and Daniel McCullers, gave the team a boost.  Dri Archer needs to be reminded that his speedy bursts need to be vertical and not horizontal – something that experience and more playing time will assist.

“It’s a great feeling to get that first touchdown and get it out of the way,” said Bryant post-game, “but I want plenty more.”

With veteran Steve McLendon (shoulder) out for the game, defensive end Cam Thomas played the first part of the game and was later replaced by McCullers who showed that he is indeed a big guy in the middle of that defensive line.  McCullers helped seal the inside lanes, forcing the Texans to push rushing plays to the outside where Tuitt and the remainder of the Steelers defense were able to cut off the lanes and force Ryan Fitzpatrick to try to target receivers.

Veteran Brett Keisel called McCullers and Tuitt “capable guys”.  “Both of them have ability and they can be special,” said Keisel.  “It’s just taking that preparation and making sure they carry it into the game.”
